They’re Baaaaaaack!

Although it may not look like it to anyone who passes by, there has been a good bit of progress at 67 Boardwalk since my last post.

I was so happy to see Michael’s truck arrive last week! I almost ran out and hugged him, but he would probably never recover from the trauma, so I refrained. Basically his crew were there to finish pouring the concrete for the piers and for the remainder of the retaining wall.

Jim wants to drive this little Bobcat so much! Maybe they’ll leave the keys in it and we can go for a joyride some dark night.

After that job, it took a few more days to cover the cinder block piers in the brick we picked out.

Shellman Bluff

It’s made in Macon Georgia. We thought it looked a lot like Chicago brick and we like that look. Up close and in person you can see lots of colors in the clay including green, silver, pink, gray and rust.

The cinder block box is for the wood-burning fireplace. Apparently it needs it’s own piers for support since the chimney is so heavy.

After this work was done, a large truck dumped gravel on the lot and the crew spread it to the edges. Our house we lived in before only had dirt underneath so crawling under it was muddy and messy. The gravel will help with moisture and drainage too.

So this is the view from the Pink House porch as we speak. Soon Michael’s job will be over until he pours the carport and driveway. I don’t know how he feels about a weird old lady watching him and taking pictures all day, but I have really had fun seeing this process. He’s a very quiet guy, but I’ve managed to squeeze a few conversations out of him. 🙂

So now I look forward to the framers. I know these guys well since I’ve been watching them build houses for Gary and GT for almost twelve years. They know me too since I have a tendency to wave and holler “howdy” when I see them in the hood. I’ll try hard not to be a pest, but I make no promises. 🙂
